Democratic Senator says she ‘absolutely’ can work with Trump Cabinet nominees

Democratic Senator Tammy Duckworth (Ill.) said she can “absolutely” work with President-elect Trump’s Cabinet nominees, so long as they’re willing to work with her.

Duckworth joined CBS’ “Face the Nation” Sunday to discuss current events and Trump’s controversial choices for his top administration positions.

Host Margaret Brennan asked Duckworth if she could support any of Trump’s nominees as Congress broached the idea of reaching across the aisle during the second Trump administration.

“Absolutely,” she replied. “I know what I need to do is have a chance to sit down and talk with each one of these nominees and listen to them and to hear what they have to say.”

Trump has begun compiling his nominees but has been swarmed by controversy.

Former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) was nominated to be attorney general, but a sexual misconduct allegation and House report tanked his chances, and he withdrew last week. Former “Fox & Friends Weekend” host Pete Hegseth has been tapped for Secretary of Defense, but he also has sexual assault allegations.

No matter who the Senate confirms, Duckworth said she is willing to hear them out.

“I’m going to evaluate each one of these candidates based on their ability to do the job and their willingness to put the needs of the American people first and not be on a retribution campaign,” Duckworth said.
