NEW DELHI: Nationalist Congress Party leader Ajit Pawar on Monday took a jibe at nephew Rohit after he won he retained his constituency from the opposition alliance as a part of the NCP-Sharad Pawar faction.
As the uncle-nephew crossed paths during their visit to death anniversary memorial of first Maharashtra CM YB Chavan, Ajit said, “Come, take my blessings. You barely survived (in retaining the seat).Had I held a rally (in Karjat Jamkhed), imagine what would have happened.” Following this, Rohit touched his feet.
When asked about Ajit Pawar’s remarks, Rohit acknowledged that if his uncle had held a rally in Karjat Jamkhed, the situation would have likely been different.
“But he was busy in Baramati and could not get time to come to the constituency,” he said.
In recently concluded polls, the NCP led by Ajit Pawar secured 41 seats, while the NCP (SP) led by his uncle, Sharad Pawar, had a disappointing showing with only 10 seats.
Ajit Pawar successfully retained his Baramati seat, defeating his nephew, Yugendra Pawar, the NCP (SP) candidate, by a margin of over one lakh votes.
The election results come amid the ongoing rift in the NCP, which deepened last year when Ajit Pawar, along with several other legislators, joined the Eknath Shinde-BJP government, resulting in a split from the party founded by his uncle.
