5.30pm Sri Lanka coach Sanath Jayasuriya stands up and applauds the two Sri Lanka batters. A hard graft for the South Africa bowlers in that final session which was dominated through and through by the visitors. They scored 139 runs in the final session for the loss of two wickets, scoring at more than four runs an over. Pathum Nissanka and Dinesh Chandimal stitched a 109-run stand for the second wicket while Nissanka and Mathews also added 49. Nissanka fell for 89 but Mathews has remained unbeaten on 40 during which he also became the third Sri Lanka batter to breach the 8000 mark in Test cricket. He has Mendis for company on 30. Sri Lanka are still behind by 116 runs, and will hope they eat into the deficit on day 3 and possibly take a lead as well. That’s it from day 2. We will catch you again tomorrow, nice and early. Ciao!
