The Supreme Court of India on Friday (January 10, 2025) refused to hear pleas against the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Act-2023’ that reserves one-third seats in Lok Sabha and state assemblies for women.
A Bench dismissed the petitions as infructuous, noting that the bill has already become a law and a constitutional amendment.
The women’s reservation Bill, which was introduced in the Parliament in 2023 became a law on September 29, 2023 after President Droupadi Murmu’s assent. Though it was introduced as the Constitution (128th) Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha, now it will be known as the Constitution (106th Amendment) Act.
