Hayden’s Carson Purkey missed a pair of free throws that would have solidified the outcome with six seconds remaining but he stripped the ball on the rebound and tossed it into the air as the Wildcats rallied for a 51-49 upset of No. 1 Ramsay in Friday’s Class 5A Northeast Regional semifinal at Jacksonville State’s Pete Mathews Coliseum.
“Missed back-to-back free throws and I was not happy with himself,” Purkey said. “But the ball bounced the right way and you can’t think about the last one. I saw the chance and grabbed it. Game over.”
