After a blazing first week, the second week of March saw a slight dip in daytime temperatures in the coastal districts of the State. However, temperatures rose in Rayalaseema, where the maximum temperature crossed 40Coastal districts experience temperature dip, while Rayalaseema sees scorching heat with maximum temperatures crossing 40°C.
Except for Nandigama and Rayalaseema, whose temperatures remained above 37°C on Sunday (March 9, 2025), all other stations in the State recorded temperatures below a maximum of 35°C. Moreover, some of these stations had negative deviations, as their daytime temperatures were below normal.
However, Rayalaseema continued to boil as the daytime temperatures in the Nandyal, Kurnool, Kadapa, and Anantapur districts hovered between 38°C and 40°C. According to the information available from the A.P. State Disaster Management Authority, the day’s highest temperature, 40.3°C, was recorded at Alamuru in Nandyal district.
Until March 7, ‘severe heatwave’ and ‘heatwave’ alerts were issued for several mandals in the State. Most of them were in the central and northern parts of the State. From Visakhapatnam in the north to Bapatla in the South Coastal A.P., the maximum temperatures remained at or above 36°C.
Despite the slight dip, there is no long-term relief for people in the State. The A.P. State Disaster Management Authority has alerted the Alluri Sitharama Raju district administration since there is a ‘severe heatwave’ alert for three mandals, including Kunavaram, Vararamachandrapuram and Chinturu. There is a ‘heatwave’ alert for 39 mandals, most of which are in the Alluri Sitharama Raju and Parvatipuram Manyam districts.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Amaravati, officials had earlier said that the first and third weeks of March in the State would be hotter compared to the second week.
