Yuvraj Singh scored an unbeaten 59 off 30.
Former India allrounder Yuvraj Singh smacked seven sixes during his match-winning 59-run innings against Australia in the semifinal of the International Master League, as fans were reminded of the vintage Yuvi from the yesteryear days.
The game took place on Thursday at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Stadium in Raipur, and the crowd was left enchanted with Yuvraj‘s power-hitting.
The former India all-rounder came in at No. 4 during the seventh over and wasted no time in making his mark, launching the second delivery he faced for a six over long on. Watch the video here:
India rode on a power-packed fifty from Yuvraj and a four-wicket haul from left-arm spinner Shahbaz Nadeem to defeat Australia by 94 runs and entered the International Masters League (IML) final in Raipur.
After being invited to bat, India Masters rode on captain and batting legend Sachin Tendulkar‘s 42-run innings before Yuvraj’s vintage hitting powered them to a whopping 220/7.
Unfazed by the losses of Ambati Rayudu (5) and Pawan Negi (11), Tendulkar stood firm, rolling back the years with brilliant timing and elegance.
At the other end, Yuvraj made an emphatic beginning, launching a colossal six over midwicket to announce his arrival.
Former Australia medium-pacer Ben Hilfenhaus struck, bringing Tendulkar’s sublime 30-ball innings, laced with seven fours, to an abrupt halt.
But Yuvraj was at his vintage best, as he stepped on the accelerator, sending 52-year-old Australia leg-spinner Bryce McGain into the stands thrice in one over to bring up a whirlwind 26-ball half-century.
The fireworks continued as Yusuf Pathan walked in and launched a towering six over long on, while Stuart Binny ensured the onslaught continued as India raced to 199/4 by the 18th over.
The India Masters duo’s effort to go ballistic in the final two overs, however, didn’t bear fruit as Australia all-rounder Daniel Christian packed back both Binny and Yusuf in a span of four balls to apply the brakes.
In reply, Australia Masters’ chase was derailed by three quick wickets inside the powerplay, with Vinay Kumar starting proceedings by getting rid of the dangerous Shane Watson (5) before dismissing Shaun Marsh (21).
India will play either Sri Lanka or the Windies in the final.
