Teacher, Principal at Several Harrison County Schools over 37 Years, Richard “Dick” James Nichols, Passes

Richard “Dick” James Nichols, 79, of Clarksburg, passed away on Friday, April 4, 2025 at River Oaks Healthcare Center. He was born on May 11, 1945 in Pittsburgh, PA, a son of the late Richard William and Margaret Ruth Schlagler Nichols.


 


Richard graduated from Washington Irving High School, Fairmont State College and received his Masters from West Virginia University. He started his career as a teaching principal at Reynoldsville School, then to Harden Grade School. Richard then became principal at Morgan Elementary, on to Shinnston Elementary/Middle School and retired from Big Elm Elementary School with thirty-seven years in education. Richard loved reading and attending activities to support his granddaughter Bailey. He was always the first person in attendance to anything Bailey did. Richard always had a hot pot of coffee and was dedicated to everybody, especially his family, work and school.


 


Richard is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years, Sandra Kay Linger Nichols whom he married on July 2, 1966; his daughter, Tahsha Nichols Carpenter, Clarksburg; granddaughter, Bailey Nicole Carpenter, Clarksburg; brother, Paul Nichols (Liz) Philadelphia, PA; several nieces and nephews.


 


In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his brother, Tom Nichols (Janice); and nephew, James Nichols.


 


Family will receive friends at Davis Funeral Home, 124 Olen Thomas Drive, Clarksburg on Monday, April 7, 2025 from 3:00pm-7:00pm and on Tuesday, April 8, 2025 from 9:00am until the time of the Funeral Service at 11:00am. Online condolences may be sent to Davisfuneralhomewv.com.
