After becoming a hero in Auburn football’s upset win over Texas A&M last season, junior kicker Ian Vachon is entering the transfer portal.
He made the announcement on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday after spending one season on the Plains. Vachon walked on at Auburn last season after transferring from Birmingham Southern following the school’s closure.
Vachon started last season buried on the depth chart, but Alex McPherson’s lingering gastrointestinal illness and Towns McGough’s inconsistencies gave him an opportunity.
Vachon started the final three games of the regular season, making a field goal to send the game against Texas A&M into overtime.
The kicker room got more crowded in the offseason after McPherson returned after having surgery and Auburn added Southern Miss transfer Connor Gibbs. With Vachon’s departure, McPherson, McGough, Gibbs and Charley Schwinger remain on the roster.
