State Police, Area Sheriff’s Office Investigating Crash that Left Driver Dead and Shut Down Roadway

FROM THE OFFICE OF UPSHUR COUNTY SHERIFF J. MICHAEL COFFMAN

On Monday, April 14, at approximately 1:23 p.m., deputies responded to a 911 call of a single vehicle motor crash on U.S. Route 33. The vehicle was traveling westbound before entering the median, crossing over into the eastbound lane, striking the guardrail, and rolling over the embankment and coming to rest in a stream.

When deputies arrived on the scene, they observed a 2012 Dodge 2500 pickup truck over an embankment that had suffered heavy damage. The truck was owned by United Contracting Inc., of Buckhannon.

The driver, Daniel Lynn Carson, 50, of Buckhannon, was deceased as a result of the crash. U.S. Route 33 was shut down to traffic traveling east for an extended period of time so the vehicle could be recovered. This is an ongoing investigation.

The West Virginia State Police Troopers from the Buckhannon and Elkins Detachment assisted the Upshur County Sheriff’s office with the crash investigation.
