Hogs used Robyn Herron’s nine strikeouts to advance past No. 4 Tennessee. Arkansas will play No. 1 Oklahoma Friday.
ATHENS, Ga. — After a walk-off grand slam by Bri Ellis on Wednesday against Georgia, the Hogs softball team was back in action Thursday afternoon, taking on No. 4 Tennessee and looking to advance to the SEC semifinals.
Robyn Herron got the start for Arkansas, a game where she struck out nine batters on 90 pitches. The game was a pitchers’ duel for the first 3 innings; however, in the 4th, Raigan Kramer and Ellis got on base. Then, after a Kailey Wyckoff grounder, the Tennessee catcher made an error, allowing both Kramer and Ellis to score, putting the Hogs up 2-0.
In the 6th inning, the Vols’ bats got hot, allowing for a Tennessee score, but after a heroic catch by Reagan Johnson and a Herron strikeout, that’s all they were able to get, and it was 2-1 heading to the 7th.
The 7th inning is where heroes are truly born, and that was the case this time for Raigan Kramer. Bases loaded, two outs, up just one, and she knocked the ball out of the park for a grand slam to give Arkansas a five-run lead with just a half inning remaining.
Herron stepped up to end the game as Arkansas advanced to play the No. 1 seed in the SEC, the Oklahoma Sooners. The matchup will be Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. on ESPN 2.
