The Department of Homeland Security has ended a policy that allowed individuals from Afghanistan to remain in the United States as long as their home country was considered unsafe. But advocates for the thousands of Afghan refugees who fled to the U.S. after the chaotic withdrawal in 2021 warn that many of them could face targeted threats if forced to return.
