A witness tells 12News the teens hopped fences Saturday night to get inside the community’s resort-style pool.
GILBERT, Ariz. — New video shows dozens of teenagers scattering as police broke up a large pool party inside a gated Gilbert community Saturday night, where authorities say hundreds may have been invited.
The incident happened at the Waterson Central community pool near Val Vista Drive and Ocotillo Road.
Video sent in by a viewer shows groups of teens walking through the neighborhood. A witness told 12News some jumped fences to get inside the community’s resort-style pool area, where they gathered for the party.
It’s unclear how long the party lasted.
Gilbert police said they began receiving calls around 8:30 p.m. reporting a loud party taking over the community pool.
When officers arrived, they estimated about 150 teenagers were at the scene, many of whom quickly dispersed.
Police said information indicates the party was advertised through flyers, which helped draw a large crowd into the gated neighborhood.
In response, Gilbert police are reminding residents about the town’s unruly gatherings ordinance. Under the law, anyone responsible for hosting a party, including parents or guardians if the host is under 18, could face fines ranging from $500 to $2,500.
Repeat violations could result in a misdemeanor charge, and those responsible may also be required to pay for damages.
12News reached out to Waterson Central staff for comment but has not received a response.
Gilbert police have not confirmed whether any arrests were made.
