Truck Suffers Significant Damage, Brief Traffic Woes Follow as Result of I-79 Accident; No Injuries Reported


A wreck earlier this week on Interstate 79 resulted in heavy damage to one vehicle and also caused traffic issues for nearly 45 minutes.


 

According to the Valley Volunteer Fire Department in Marion County, the call for the accident came in at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 21. First responders were called to the scene of a two-vehicle crash with possible fire on I-79.


 


Fire personnel arrived to an area near the 132 mile maker, while is in the area near the Whitehall and South Fairmont exit section of the roadway. Once on the scene, first responders found a pickup truck that had sustained significant damage to its front end that had rear ended the back of a tractor trailer.


 


The driver of the truck suffering damage was out of the vehicle upon arrival. The Marion County Rescue Squad evaluated the individual. There was no transport as no injuries were reported.


 


As a result of the accident, fluids from the truck were on I-79. Staff of the VVFD utilized oil dry on the roadway. The cleanup required staff to keep traffic in the fast lane.


 


Hawkins Towing removed the vehicle from the roadway. The West Virginia State Police are overseeing the investigation.
