A video of police arresting a man following this morning’s suspected stabbing in Golders Green, north London, has emerged. The video shows several police officers running towards the suspect and shouting “Drop the f***ing knife”, having to kick and Taser the man wearing a dark blue jacket several times to be able to make the arrest. The 45-year-old suspect tried to stab police officers when he was stopped in Golders Green, and was tasered before being arrested.
Two Jewish men, one aged in his 70s and the other in his 30s, sustained stab wounds moments before in the horrific attack in North London. They are in a stable condition in hospital after the attack shortly after 11am in Highfield Avenue. London Ambulance Service confirmed the attacker was also taken to hospital, with one Shomrim volunteer saying they saw him being given CPR.
The disturbing attack prompted calls for action from the chief rabbi and the Israeli foreign ministry, following a series of incidents targeting Jewish sites in London.
A spokesperson for the Met Police said: “At 11.16am on Wednesday, April 24, officers responded following reports of people stabbed in Highfield Avenue.
“Local officers and armed officers attended, alongside the London Ambulance Service.
“The suspect also attempted to stab police officers, and was Tasered before being arrested. No officers were injured.
“Two men – one in his 70s and one in his 30s – were treated at the scene for stab wounds. They have been taken to hospital and both are in a stable condition.
“A 45-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. He was taken into custody, where he remains. We are working to establish his nationality and background.
“Specialist officers from Counter Terrorism Policing are leading the investigation and working with the Metropolitan Police to establish the full circumstances and any links to terrorism.”
Detective Chief Superintendent Luke Williams said: “Our thoughts are with the victims of this horrific attack. We are grateful to officers who swiftly Tasered and arrested the suspect before he could cause further harm.
“We are aware of the significant distress and concern this incident is likely to cause in the face of a number of incidents in the local area. A suspect is in custody, and investigators are considering all possible motives.
“Officers will remain at the scene for some time to carry out further enquiries, speak to local people and offer reassurance.”
