These fire regulations will stick around for at least the next four months.
PHOENIX — If you have any outdoor plans this weekend, like camping or a barbecue, some big changes are coming.
Starting May 1, annual fire bans are back in effect for Phoenix and Maricopa County parks. This means all outdoor fires are prohibited.
Officials say the fire ban will stay in place for the next four months, running through September 30, 2026. The restriction covers all preserves and parks in Phoenix and throughout all of Maricopa County.
This measure is being put into effect as the region continues to face ongoing drought conditions, and heightened wildfire risks.
Under the new restrictions, the following are banned at both Phoenix and Maricopa County parks:
Campfires
Fire pits
Charcoal grills
However, visitors are not entirely without options. Gas or propane grills will still be allowed in designated ramadas and picnic areas.
Authorities are urging residents not to take these rules lightly. Maricopa County leaders say illegal outdoor fires can lead to a minimum fine of $200.
Additionally, officials say they will fine homeowners between $50 to $250, for improperly burning items in their fireplace, chimney or woodstove.
