BARLING, Arkansas — The Arkansas National Guard (ARNG) said Monday that seven soldiers were injured in a crash involving a military vehicle at Fort Chaffee.

Of the seven soldiers injured, one had to be taken by air to Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville, where he underwent surgery and was later confirmed to be in stable condition.

The six other soldiers were taken to Mercy Fort Smith with minor injuries, ARNG said. The injured soldiers were part of the 1st Battalion, 142nd Field Artillery Brigade, which is based in Northwest Arkansas.

ARNG said the crash involved three heavy expanded mobility tactical trucks, or HEMMTs, which were participating in an exercise as part of the brigade’s annual training.

ARNG added that an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the crash.
