For the second time this week, an air medical flight was needed for a motorcycle accident in Harrison County. This time, however, it was in a residential section of Bridgeport.
“It was dispatched to us as a motorcycle accident with a male reportedly laying in the road,” Bridgeport Fire Chief Greg Pigg said.
Pigg said the initial units arrived shortly after the alert onto Pennsylvania Avenue. As was reported, the drive of a motorcycle was found on the roadway.
“Our staff noticed immediately the male in question had severe injuries,” said Pigg.
The concerns led to checking the availability of HealthNet. Pigg said the unit was nearby and only needed six minutes from being contacted to arrive at the North Central West Virginia Airport where the Bridgeport Fire Department’s EMS unit transported the patient. From there, he was flown to Ruby Memorial Hospital.
“The individual on the motorcycle struck a vehicle on the side of the road. The vehicle was parked,” said Pigg.
Pigg did not have any additional information on the status of the driver. He said the Bridgeport Police Department is overseeing the investigation.
Earlier this week, on May 4, emergency personnel responded to a motorcycle accident near the Harrison County and Marion County line on Francis Mine Road.
