The DEA New Orleans Field Division has found Arkansas to be the led state in drug collection in the region after the National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — On April 25, 2025, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) New Orleans Field Division partnered with law enforcement along the Gulf Coast for the 16th annual National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.
Through the event, communities in states including Arkansas, Louisiana, Alabama, and Mississippi have removed 63,119 pounds of unneeded and expired medications from home medicine cabinets.
In a divisional breakdown, Arkansas led the collections with a 50,240-pound contribution of unused or expired medication.
Louisiana follows with a 4,579-pound intake, and Alabama residents disposed of 4,337 pounds of prescriptions. Mississippi reports 3,963 pounds in contributions.
Steven L. Hofer, Special Agent in Charge of the DEA New Orleans Division, said, “The overwhelming success of this event, particularly the record-breaking efforts in Arkansas, shows that our communities are taking the threat of prescription drug misuse seriously. By removing these medications from our homes, we are closing a major door to potential addiction and accidental overdose before it can even start.”
