Geothermal plant under construction at Clinton National Airport

The Clinton National Airport announced on Tuesday that it has started construction on a new geothermal wellfield.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — The Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport (LIT) announced on Tuesday that crews have started construction on a new geothermal wellfield.

The wellfield is being funded with a $7.75 million grant given to the Airport in July 2024 by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

The funding came through the EPA’s Climate Pollution Reduction Grants Program.

Officials said the wellfield will cut on-site greenhouse gas emissions by 90 percent and save about 20 percent per year on energy.

It will also bring 1700 new parking spaces, including covered spots.
