Bridgeport man gets 5-year sentence for trafficking fentanyl

NEW HAVEN — A Bridgeport man was sentenced to five years in prison for trafficking fentanyl, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Santiago is released on a $25,000 bond and is scheduled to report to prison on Sept. 24, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

The sentence stems from an investigation that began in 2024 by the FBI’s Bridgeport Safe Streets Task Force and the Bridgeport Police Department. The U.S. Attorney’s Office said investigators were looking into an “open-air drug market” that operated in the area of Noble Avenue and Shelton Street in Bridgeport.

Between March and September 2024, investigators made 11 controlled purchases of narcotics from various sellers. The investigation, which also used wiretaps and physical surveillance, revealed that Santiago and others supplied fentanyl to the drug dealers, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Santiago was arrested in February 2025, and pleaded guilty in January to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute, and to distribute, 40 grams or more of fentanyl.
