A popular beach in Essex was cordoned off after emergency services were called to a “tragic incident”. The RNLI, police officers, an air ambulance, firefighters and paramedics rushed to West Mersea beach near Colchester yesterday evening. It was not immediately clear what the nature of the incident was.
A cordon was put in place, with people urged to avoid the area. West Mersea Coastguard Rescue Team said in a statement yesterday evening: ” Tonight we have responded to a tragic incident on West Mersea beach. Our team and West Mersea Lifeboat Station – RNLI were first on scene. We will not be making any further comment on the details at this time and leave this task to Essex Police as an ongoing incident. Our thoughts are with the family involved.”
