AIADMK tells functionaries not to speak to the media without prior nod

The AIADMK on Thursday urged its office bearers not to express views to the media on the position and activities of the organisation without taking prior approval from the party leadership.

In a statement, the party stated that it would spell out, “at an appropriate time and in a proper manner,” its decisions and stand. Earlier in the day, the party’s senior leader and former Deputy Speaker of the Lok Sabha, M. Thambi Durai, defended the party general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami for the stance against the coalition government in the event of the AIADMK-BJP combine capturing power in the next year’s Assembly election.

He recalled that neither in 1952 nor in 2006 did the State face a multi-party regime despite no party getting a simple majority of its own.  Besides, the party’s general council and the executive, at their previous meetings, had authorised Mr Palaniswami to decide on the alliance issue.
