Area Man who Served as Local Business Co-Owner, John Washenitz, Passes Away at the Age of 90


John Washenitz, 90, of Fairmont, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, July 4, 2026, at Fairmont Medical Center.


 


Born on March 6, 1936, in Rivesville, John was the son of the late Charles Washenitz and Agnes Takash Washenitz.


 

John is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Linda Washenitz; his children, Melissa Washenitz Morgan and her husband, Kevin, John Charles Washenitz, and Brad Michael Washenitz and his wife, Angela, all of Fairmont; his cherished grandchildren, Alexa Morgan, Helena Washenitz, Marcus Washenitz, and Easton Washenitz; his brother, Frank Washenitz and his wife, Pam, of Fairmont; as well as many nieces and nephews.


 


In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his sister, Agnes Jean Lambert, and his uncle, Pete Washenitz.


 


John graduated from Rivesville High School in 1955 and was the co-owner of R&W Cable. Family was the center of his life, and he found happiness in life’s simple routines. He took great pride in caring for his home and yard, enjoyed washing his car, driving into town for coffee and the newspaper, and faithfully walked from Rock Lake to Valley Falls each day for 17 years.


 


John was also an avid sports fan who rarely missed cheering on WVU, the Pittsburgh Steelers, or following the excitement of March Madness.


 


In accordance with John’s wishes, there will be no public services.
