Scott Bryce, who was best known for his portrayal of Craig Montgomery on the CBS soap opera “As the World Turns,” died on Sunday, July 12, after a battle with esophageal and stomach cancer. He was 68.
The news was confirmed by Bryce’s longtime friend Lucie Arnaz, who is the daughter of “I Love Lucy” stars Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz.
“A wonderful actor, a beautiful man and a terrific husband and father, Scott Bryce, passed tonight. I am going to miss his eyes, his smile, his wit, his brain, his intelligence, his talent, his bravery, his laugh and his hugs,” Lucie wrote via Facebook on Sunday, according to entertainment journalist Michael Fairman’s website. (Lucie’s post has since been deleted.)
Lucie added a supportive message for Bryce’s wife Jodi Stevens, whom he married in 2003, and their son Jackson.
“Dearest Jodi, dear Jackson, he’s watching over you now from a place of pure joy and will always be your guide. But, I hate these goodbyes. Rest in peace you marvelous, magnificent man,” she wrote.
In a Facebook post of his own, Fairman wrote that he was “beyond heartbroken” by the news.
Bryce originated the role of Craig Montgomery, a scheming, cutthroat businessman. He played the part from 1982 to 1991, 1993 to 1994 and finally from 2007 to 2008. The role landed Bryce two Daytime Emmy nominations for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, in 1986 and 1987.
In addition to his work on “As the World Turns,” which aired on CBS from 1956 to 2010, Bryce made appearances on hit shows including “Blue Bloods,” “30 Rock,” “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” and “Sex and the City.”

Bryce was diagnosed with stage 3 esophageal and stomach cancer in 2025. He opened up about his cancer battle during a September 2025 appearance on “The Locher Room” podcast.
Bryce said he “wasn’t certain” whether he wanted to go public with his diagnosis until his wife pointed out that he could “actually help people” going through similar struggles.
