In a post on X in Hindi, Mayawati criticised the Congress party for not implementing OBC reservation during their tenure, despite conducting a caste census in the country.
“The Congress party government did not implement OBC reservation while being in power for a long time at the centre, nor is this party, which has conducted caste census in the country, now dreaming of coming to power under its cover,” Mayawati said in a post on X.
Mayawati’s comments were in response to Rahul Gandhi’s statement made during his visit to the United States, where he said, “We will think of scrapping reservations when India is a fair place.”
She urged people to be cautious of what she termed as the “Congress party drama,” asserting that they would never carry out a caste census in the future.
“Now be cautious of this drama by the supreme leader of the Congress party, Rahul Gandhi, in which he has said abroad that when India is in a better condition, we will end the reservation of SC, ST, OBC. This makes it clear that Congress has been conspiring to end their reservation for years,” Mayawati added.
Mayawati warned that if Congress comes to power, they will attempt to eliminate reservations, citing Rahul’s statement as a pretext.
“People of these classes should be cautious of this dangerous statement given by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi because as soon as this party comes to power at the centre, it will definitely end their reservation under the pretext of this statement. These people should definitely be cautious of this party which pretends to save the constitution and reservation,” she said.
Mayawati also labeled Congress as “anti-reservation,” holding them responsible for Dr BR Ambedkar’s resignation as law minister due to the party’s inability to uphold reservation rights.
“Until casteism is completely eradicated from the country, the social, economic, and educational condition of these classes will not improve, even if the situation in India becomes relatively better. Therefore, it is necessary to continue the correct constitutional system of reservation until casteism is completely eradicated,” she said.
