NEW DELHI: BJP on Monday asked Congress to issue a clarification on the statement of Bharatiya Kisan Union president Gurnam Singh Charuni who claimed the farmers’ movement led by them created a “favourable atmosphere” for the opposition party, which, however, failed to capitalise on it.
“Statement of Gurnam Charuni revealed secrets of Congress. All non political movements are ultimately aimed at grabbing power.Arvind Kejriwal is a prime example of it,” said Sudhanshu Trivedi at a press conference. The BJP functionary said Charuni’s recent claim exposed that the farmers’ protest was clearly sponsored by Congress. “People will see now as to how those claiming to be leading an apolitical movement essentially eye power,” Trivedi said and cited Kejriwal and also the recent wrestlers’ protest.
Union minister Ravneet Singh Bittu said although late, Charuni has spoken the truth and exposed all farm leaders. “I want to thank Charuni. He has exposed how Congress used him against BJP and the PM… Charuni should be provided with security because these so-called farmer leaders…can attack him.”
Charuni Sunday said, “The atmosphere that was created in favour of Congress in Haryana was due to us, but the party couldn’t make the best out of it.” He criticised Congress for failing to stand with farmers. tnn
