A popular seaside resort in Norfolk has apologised to guests after their winter stays were “ruined” by a spate of “thieving and fighting”.
Holidaymakers at Haven’s Seashore Holiday Park in Great Yarmouth were expecting a peaceful festive getaway when they arrived at the four-star resort in December – but it didn’t take long for their winter breaks to take a turn for the worse.
Visitors staying at the holiday resort were reportedly forced to “board up [their] caravan windows” and flee the hotel’s Marina Bar and Pavilion after a group of people descended on the site, kicking off a “chaotic” spate of “stealing, fighting and smashing up caravans”.
“Security was assaulted. People [were] stealing things, fighting, smashing up caravans,” an anonymous guest told the Eastern Daily Press (EDP). “The park deemed the situation ‘unsafe’ and there was a large police presence.”
Reviews of the hotel on TripAdvisor alleged that fights were started by a group of “travellers”, with “kids [stealing] and trashing stuff” and recounted “screaming and shouting, bad language [and] rubbish [being thrown] everywhere”.
Others said they were made to feel “unwelcome and unsafe”, and were forced to “board up [their] caravan windows”, with the disruption “ruining” their holidays and leaving their young children “scared and upset”.
One recent visitor acknowledged that the resort’s staff had been “amazing” and “tried so hard to look after us but ultimately … were outnumbered”.
Haven told the EDP that staff had worked with police to deal with the “disruption” and insisted that everyone allowed into the resort was a “legitimate guest”.
“We’re very sorry that our guest’s experience at Seashore was affected by the disruptive behaviour of a small number of guests at the park,” an official statement read.
“Anti-social behaviour is unacceptable and, in line with our policies, those causing the disruption were quickly removed from the park.
“Our goal is to ensure that every guest enjoys a wonderful holiday, and we are committed to maintaining a welcoming environment.
“We hope the guests will return soon to fully enjoy all that this beautiful location has to offer.”
