Anna “Frances” (Hardbarger) Moats, 85, of Bridgeport, departed this life on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, after dealing with a brief illness. She faced her final days with quiet strength and steady grace that carried her through a long life filled with love, family and devotion.
Frances is survived by her three children, Denzil Sandy and his wife Myra of Stonewood; Jane Woodward of Bridgeport; and Bobby Moats of Bridgeport; and her sister, Helen Burton of Stonewood. She was the mother of six children, fourteen grandchildren, twenty-six great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren. Her greatest joy was her family, and she loved each one dearly. She always enjoyed seeing them, hearing about their lives, and celebrating their milestones. Her caring nature lives on in many of them.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three children, Connie Bailey, David Sandy, and Brenda Fetty; as well as two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She carried their memories tenderly throughout her life.
During the 1980’s, Frances owned and operated Our Own Board and Care Home, where she found deep purpose in living with and caring for others. Her compassion and patience made her a comforting presence to those who needed support. Before retiring, she also worked at a daycare, where she especially loved caring for the babies, a role that came naturally to her gentle spirit.
Through the years, Frances’s home was always an open door. Many family gatherings were held there during the holidays, filled with laughter, food, and the warmth she created. Later in life, she enjoyed watching her soaps, drinking coffee, and looking forward to visits from her family. She was somewhat of a homebody, choosing to stay close to her children rather than travel, finding contentment in the familiar comforts of home.
Frances had a strong faith in God, which guided her through life’s joys and sorrows. She was deeply loved by her family and friends and will be greatly missed. Her legacy is one of kindness, devotion, and quiet strength, a life lived with heart.
The family would like to give special thanks to her home health nurse, Jennifer Swiger, for the loving and compassionate care she provided.
Frances will be cremated and a celebration of her life will be announced at a later date.
