Jason Isbell and Amanda Shires have finalized their divorce more than a year after the country music stars filed.
Isbell, 46, filed for divorce from Shires, 43, in December 2023, according to PEOPLE.
The singer and performer filed for divorce in Tennessee on Dec. 15, 2023, after 10 years of marriage, citing irreconcilable differences as reason for the split, per the report.
The pair are parents to 9-year-old daughter Mercy.
According to The Wall Street Journal, Isbell has been dating painter Anna Weyant, 29, since February after he read about her in GQ magazine and reached out.
Isbell told The Journal that the marriage crumbled amid growing tension over their lack of a work/life balance and a difference in success.
“His career had also taken off in ways hers had not,” the WSJ reported.
“We weren’t plate-throwers, and we weren’t yelling in front of the kid… It got to the point where, if something really good happened to me, I wouldn’t even mention it, because I knew it would hurt her. It made the atmosphere unbreatheable for a while,” he said.
The end of the marriage helped inspire Isbell’s new solo acoustic album, “Foxes in the Snow,” Variety reported.
“There are the songs that go deep into a split, like the one we know Isbell experienced, and the numbers that describe falling hard for a new gal, something that anyone who reads the papers, as it were, also knows to be true.”
