Democratic Senator Tammy Duckworth (Ill.) said Sunday she “looks forward” to hearing what Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) has to say about his new nomination after being picked as President-elect Trump’s choice for Secretary of State.
Duckworth joined CNN’s “State of the Union” Sunday, where host Dana Bash questioned her about Trump’s controversial Cabinet picks. As the president-elect rolls out his nominations, Rubio, who was once at odds with Trump, was tapped for the top position.
“I look forward to talking to him. You know, Marco Rubio, you have strange bedfellows, and you have strange alliances,” she said.
Duckworth said when she was pushing for an effort to get permission to bring her daughter onto the Senate floor, Rubio came up to her and said he would back her “every step of the way” because he wished he could bring his kids on the floor.
“So, we have a friendship,” Duckworth said. “We’ve served together. I look forward to talking to him to see what he’s going to do or what his policies are.”
