Dylan Cardwell etched his name into Auburn men’s basketball history Saturday, winning his 115th game and becoming the winningest player in program history.
It came in a 94-78 win over Kentucky at Rupp Arena, Auburn’s first win there since 1988. Cardwell breaks the win record previously set by former Tigers star Jaylin Williams, after tying the record in Wednesday’s win over Ole Miss.
Cardwell is in his fifth season at Auburn, signing with the Tigers ahead of the 2020-2021 season. He’s been a part of two Southeastern Conference regular season championships, one SEC Tournament championship and three 25-win seasons.
“I would just love for you to open up the dictionary or some book and look up the definition of Auburn basketball, and see Dylan Cardwell going like this,” Bruce Pearl said while raising his arms after Auburn’s win over Ole Miss. “I think that would be OK.”
Becoming a consistent starter for the first time in the 2024-2025 season, Cardwell is averaging 5.2 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.6 blocks this season.
“No one wants to be Dennis Rodman,” Cardwell said while smiling in an interview with AL.com. “So, for me, I was like, ‘Man, Dennis Rodman’s a Hall of Famer, Draymond Green’s a Hall of Famer and man, why not pursue that path and just be the guy who does the dirty work?’”
Throughout his career, he’s been known for being Auburn’s glue guy and playing with passion and emotion. Now, he’s also known as the program’s most prolific winner.
