FBI CJIS Citizens Academy Alumni Association Earns Prestigious 2026 Gold Star Chapter Designation

FBI Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) Citizens Academy Alumni Association is proud to announce the local chapter earned the prestigious 2026 Gold Star Chapter Designation.

The Gold Star Chapter designation is more than an honor-it is a recognition of the CJIS Chapter’s hard work, impactful service and leadership in advancing the FBI National Citizens Academy Alumni Association (FBINCAAA) mission. The designation from the national organization affirms that our local efforts shine as a beacon of what is possible when we work together to make a difference in our communities.

To earn the Gold Star Chapter designation, chapters must meet a series of compliance requirements that demonstrate strong governance, operational consistency and mission-driven engagement. Upon achieving this status, chapters receive a distinctive digital asset for use on websites and social media – serving as a virtual badge of honor and a visible symbol of their commitment to excellence.

FBI CJIS Citizens Academy Alumni Association (FBICJISCAAA) is a nonprofit, all volunteer organization that works in partnership with the FBI to promote public safety and security through community engagement, education, and outreach initiatives. Established in 2005, the CJIS Chapter brings together hundreds of members representing diverse business, civic, religious, and community leaders.

“The FBI’s CJIS Division is proud of our CJIS Citizens Academy Alumni Association for earning this Gold Star Chapter designation for the first time in its 20-year history,” said CJIS Division Assistant Director Timothy A. Ferguson. “Members of the Citizens Academy Alumni Association are ambassadors for the FBI and help the FBI connect with members of our community, whom we work to protect and serve every day. This designation is evidence that graduates of our CJIS Citizens Academy Program remain dedicated to making a difference, even after the program ends.”

“I am incredibly proud to be a member of the FBICJISCAAA and to be part of this historic moment in receiving the Gold Star Award,” said current FBICJISCAA President Michelle Duez. “Our organization has always been strong—built on dedicated leaders from across north central West Virginia and southwestern Pennsylvania—working together with a shared purpose. I’ve always believed it takes a village to get a job done, and we are truly part of a very special one. Partnering with FBI professionals is a true honor, and serving as a bridge between them and our community is both meaningful and rewarding. As we look ahead, we’re excited to continue growing our alumni engagement and expanding our community service efforts, carrying forward the spirit of excellence and service that defines us.”
