Regular gas averaging $3.95 per gallon in Florida, AAA says
ORLANDO, Fla. – Drivers in Central Florida are facing higher prices at the pump, and experts warn it could get worse.
AAA reports the average price for a gallon of regular gasoline in Florida has reached $3.95 — up 6 cents from Wednesday and 14 cents compared to one week ago. Diesel is averaging $5 per gallon, according to AAA.
The spike is tied to escalating military conflict between the United States and Iran. U.S. strikes on Iran have been ongoing for several days, while American allies in the Middle East report intercepting Iranian missiles and drones.
Global oil prices have climbed to $80 per barrel as the conflict continues. If strikes persist, analysts warn prices could approach $100 per barrel.
The U.S. is also blocking ships from Iranian ports. Iran has threatened to halt energy exports in response — a move that could broadly impact the global economy.
President Trump has backed off a proposed 20 percent protection fee on ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz after pushback from shipping companies and allies, offering some relief to oil markets.
