Former Area Official Arrested on Felony Charges Due to Charge Embezzling $79,000 from Senior Center


A public official from the area has been arrested for felony embezzlement of nearly $80,000 from a government agency.


 

According to a press release from the Upshur County Sheriff’s Department, Tracie R. Thompson of Elkins was arrested for embezzlement. It came after a multi-month investigation into allegations of misconduct by Thompson.


 


Thompson’s alleged misconduct came while employed by the Upshur County Senior Center. According to the office of Sheriff J.M. Coffman, the investigation uncovered $79,237.43 worth of alleged exploitation of the Upshur County Senior Center during the time


 


Thompson served as that organization’s executive director. She is no longer in that position, which she held from October of 2021 to June of 2024.


 


Thompson is in Tygart Valley Regional Jail.
