Harrison County Woman who Did Critical Government Work on F-16 Fighter Jets, Lois Evans, Passes at 85


Lois Virginia Evans, 85, of Lumberport, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 4, 2026, at the Salem Center. Born on June 6, 1941, in Maryland, she was the cherished daughter of the late Vivian Ray White and Irene Laura Williams White.


 

Lois devoted more than four decades of her life to serving her country through her remarkable career designing software for F-16 fighter jets for the United States Government. Her work reflected her intelligence, dedication, and unwavering commitment to excellence, leaving behind a legacy of service that quietly impacted countless lives.


 


While Lois was proud of her professional accomplishments, her greatest joy was always found in the people she loved. She treasured every moment spent with her family, looked forward to vacations that created lasting memories, and was known for her kind heart, gentle spirit, and caring nature. She was a wonderful woman whose warmth and love will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.


 


Left to cherish her memory are her beloved grandchildren, Michael McVicker Jr. of Mannington, Nathan McVicker and his wife, Erin, of Fairmont, and Tiffany McVicker of Edgewood, Maryland. She also leaves behind several treasured great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, who were a source of great pride and happiness in her later years. Also surviving is her brother, Jimmy White of Florida.


 


Welcoming Lois into eternal peace were those she loved and missed dearly: her devoted husband, William Evans, with whom she shared many cherished years; her beloved son, Michael McVicker; and her brothers, Paul White, Robert White, and Joseph White.


 


Honoring Lois’ wishes, she will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband and family at Savage Cemetery in Maryland on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at 1:00 p.m., where they will be reunited together once more.
