Heavy rains, floods cause some damage to Arkansas roadways

Some areas of the state are experiencing damage due to flooding caused by the ongoing heavy rains across the state of Arkansas.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — As a multi-day strong upper-level storm system is ongoing here in Arkansas, it has also brought along the threats of severe weather, including possible tornadoes and even a chance of flash flooding.

According to the National Weather Service, a flood watch has been in effect from Wednesday afternoon and will run through Sunday morning.

They are also describing the forecast as a “particularly dangerous situation” in regards to flooding

A large part of Arkansas is estimated to get anywhere between 7 to 12″ of rain. ARDOT is reporting nearly two dozen highways dealing with high water and flooding as of 4:30 a.m. on April 5.

Rain has already caused reported damage around Highway 333 near Marshall, where the road has been seemingly destroyed.

As an Izard County sheriff was attempting to help people who were trapped in a rural part of the county, their truck got stuck in a spot on the road that was washed out and hidden by water. Luckily, Sheriff Melton was uninjured.

Due to the heavy rainfall, the National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning in the state, including for the areas in and around Pulaski County, which is set to run until 12:15 a.m. on Friday night going into Saturday morning.

They advise people not to travel unless they are fleeing from an area that is subject to flooding or are under an evacuation order.

The flash flood warning is an extremely dangerous and life-threatening situation.

Remember, it only takes a few inches of water to knock you down, and between one to two feet of water for it to be able to move your car.
