The Kannada translation of former Kerala Health Minister K.K. Shailaja’s memoir Comrade Aagi Nanna Baduku (My Life as a Comrade) was released in Bengaluru on Saturday (November 30).
Translated into Kannada by Dr. H.S. Anupama, the book is published by Kriya Madhyama.
“Every crisis brings an opportunity and makes you brave. Young people ask what crisis management is. It is nothing but taking the right decision at the right time, team forming and team management. I had an opportunity to practise all this during my time as Minister,” said Ms. Shailaja, talking about the crucial years of the COVID-19 outbreak when she served as Health Minister and won much accolade for her work.
A doctor herself, translator Dr. Anupama suggested that the book should be brought out in all languages by the CPI (M). Pointing out that Ms. Shaiaja had done her B.Ed. in Kodagu in Karnataka, Dr. Anupama said the former Minister had a remarkable detachment to power, which is very special for a politician. She refused many awards, including the Ramon Magsaysay Award for COVID-19 management. Dr. Anupama said the author should write a second part of her memoir, focusing on the practice of communism.
The book launch was organised in association with Pustaka Preeti and Sarvatrika Arogya Andolana-Karnataka.
