According to WDTV, a convicted felon ran from police on a side-by-side in Harrison County Thursday night.
When the deputy turned his siren on, Short began speeding up and ran. Court documents say he reached speeds of up to 55 miles per hour and almost wrecked into parked vehicles numerous times. At the intersection of Main Street and Vincent Place, Short caught the edge of the road and rolled the side-by-side into the front yard of a home on 3rd Street, court documents say.
A female passenger was trapped in the vehicle. After she was removed, she told deputies she asked Short to stop multiple times, but he would not, court documents say.
Short was taken into custody, and deputies determined that the side-by-side was stolen and that there was a pistol and a bong used to smoke illegal drugs in the vehicle.
Due to a malicious assault conviction in 2009 and a prohibited person in possession of a firearm conviction in 2022, Short was unable to possess a firearm, deputies said.
Also, while at United Hospital Center being medically cleared, Short admitted to smoking and using fentanyl before driving the side-by-side, court documents say.
Short is charged with fleeing with reckless indifference and prohibited person in possession of a firearm and is currently in the North Central Regional Jail with bond set at $75,000.
