Missing 3-year-old with mental disabilities rescued from Osceola pond, video shows

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. – Osceola County deputies managed to find and rescue a missing 3-year-old boy who had wandered into a retention pond near his home last month, according to the sheriff’s office.

In a release on Thursday, deputies said that the Aviation Unit eventually spotted the boy in a retention pond around 300 yards from his home.

“Deputies responded and recovered the child, who was already up to his chest in the water…” the release reads. “Thankfully, the child was uninjured and reunited with his family.”

As a result of the incident, the sheriff’s office issued a reminder to families about its “Project Lifesaver” program, which offers free GPS tracking bracelets to vulnerable family members who may be susceptible to wandering off.

Meanwhile, anyone with information about this case or any similar incidents is urged to contact the sheriff’s office at (407) 348-2222.
