You can now find three cat cafes in the Valley: one in Mesa and two in Phoenix. PHX Cat Cafe just opened a new location near 43rd Avenue and Union Hills Drive.
PHOENIX — Cat lovers across the Valley officially have another space they can check out.
Thanks to a brand new building in north Phoenix, there are now three cat cafés in the area:
Kitty Pause Kitty Cafe in Mesa
PHX Cat Cafe in downtown Phoenix
PHX Cat Cafe in north Phoenix
The newest PHX Cat Cafe location in north Phoenix is located near 43rd Avenue and Union Hills Drive. It’s finally here after over a year of preparation, permitting, development and inspections.
From permits to developments and inspections, the PHX Cat Café put a year of hard work into bringing this new location to the Valley.
“It’s such a relief to finally have it done,” PHX Cat Cafe CEO Carrie Schwartz said. “In the past year leading up to it, there’s been a lot happening with cats on our wait list, and my personal life. I had a baby last year.”
Besides being a mother to two kids, Schwartz is now helping even more cats across the Valley find a loving home.
“It’s a little more chaos,” Schwartz said with a smile. “But, it’s really being able to help twice the number of cats. This facility is a little bit larger than downtown, which means we can have more cats.”
The cat cafe in north Phoenix has room for five more cats than the downtown Phoenix location.
“Hopefully they get to find that forever home as well,” Schwartz said.
Between the downtown and north Phoenix locations, 61 cats are being cared for. It’s helping keep them away from an outdoor life.
“In Phoenix, we have a terrible problem with outdoor cats,” Schwartz said. “We, actually in this room, have about a dozen cats, all from the same RV park.”
Audra McCormick volunteers full-time at the space near 43rd Avenue and Union Hills Drive. She said PHX Cat Cafe needs more helpers and money donors.
“I just think it’s so important that people truly understand that this is a 100% non-for-profit,” McCormick said. “Without your donations or your time, it makes it even harder for us to accept more cats.”
This month, the PHX Cat Café is holding a 50/50 raffle. It’ll cost you $20 to enter. Half of the money collected will go to one lucky winner, and the other half will help the cats in their care.
The winner will be announced on May 31 at 5 p.m.
