North Little Rock dance instructor accused of sexual assault | What to know

A North Little Rock dance instructor accused of sexually assaulting a student has sparked concern in the community.

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — What started as just a post on a community Facebook page has now turned into an investigation involving a dance instructor in North Little Rock.

Earlier this month— a minor told police that they were sexually assaulted by 33-year-old Kenneth Womack.

Womack was later arrested and charged with several counts of rape and assault.

“I always thought it was a safe spot. I mean, I didn’t think nothing else but that,” said Myisha Green whose daughter is a former member of the Little Rock dance club called “Golden Royalty.”

Green’s daughter was a dancer on another team who has competed in events with Womack’s team. While she explained how she was shocked by the allegations, she said that there were other parents from several groups who had concerns.

“We were not aware of it until he formed his dance team and he was about to have his first competition,” she described.

Those worries grew and eventually, they reached out to warn other parents.

“Our dance team made sure that they informed the parents. Like, you know, hey, [watch] this person, watch your kid’s social media,” she added.

She also explained how she even took her concerns to schools where Womack allegedly recruited dancers. According to her, those concerns were not acknowledged.

“You’re not listening to me. You’re not hearing what I’m warning you and telling you,” Green said.

Women and Children First is a non-profit that works with victims of domestic violence and sexual assault and assistant director, LaKese Hicks, shared how steps should have been taken as soon as any concerns were raised.

“It’s not our job to question whether the story is real or not. Our job is to validate and believe them. Believe them,” she added.

When it comes to avoiding dangerous situations Hicks said that education is key.

“We can help you use the right words, even if that means maybe we need to be a part of that conversation,” she said.

As of Tuesday, Womack pleaded not guilty and has been out on bond.

We will continue to follow up on this story as soon as more information becomes available.
