Popular Area Bakery Damaged by Water Due to Fire

FROM THE MORGANTOWN FIRE DEPARTMENT

The Morgantown Fire Department responded to a structure fire at Phoenix Bakery on Kingwood Street on the evening of Sunday, March 2, 2025. Firefighters arrived on the scene three minutes after the initial dispatch.

Upon arrival, heavy smoke was observed coming from the roof. Under the direction of Lieutenant Ashley Jenkins, firefighters initiated an interior attack through an upstairs apartment. The fire was contained to a third-floor bedroom; however, water damage affected all three floors of the building, including the bakery.

Preliminary findings suggest that faulty heating equipment may have been a contributing factor to the structure fire. However, the cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Morgantown Fire Department’s fire marshals.

Editor’s Note: According to the Phoenix Bakery Facebook page, the business will be closed for several weeks until issues caused by the water damage can be addressed. Click HERE for their page to follow updates.
