Popular pet food recalled after contamination issues

Blue Ridge Beef has issued a recall of two brands of its popular pet food because the products may have been contaminated with salmonella and listeria, according to an alert from the FDA.

Blue Ridge Beef is recalling 1,080 pounds of their two-pound logs of “Kitten Mix” and 1,380 pounds of their two-pound logs of “Puppy Mix.” The “Kitten Mix” has lot number N26 0114 and the “Puppy Mix” has lot number N25 1230. The lot numbers are stamped in the clips on the end of the bags.

The contaminated products were distributed between Jan. 3-24. The product is packaged in clear plastic and sold primarily in retailers in Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York State, Tennessee, Rhode Island, and Wisconsin.

Consumers who have purchased these products are urged to return them to the place of purchase or destroy the food. The FDA is also urging people not to sell or donate the contaminated products.
