Power restored in northern Arizona city following semi-truck crash

Nearly 800 Arizona Public Service customers in Seligman were without power for a couple of days following the crash along I-40.

SELIGMAN, Ariz. — Hundreds of people in Seligman had their power restored on Saturday following a serious semi-truck crash along I-40 on April 16.

Officials say the crash happened around 2 a.m. when a semi-truck drove into the median and struck a power pole, ripping down cables. A second semi-truck then collided with the first vehicle, compounding the damage.

According to Arizona Public Service, the impact caused extensive damage to equipment, knocking out power to nearly 800 customers.

During the power outage, residents told 12News that every business in town had to close, including four gas stations, creating major challenges.

“There’s no place to go to the bathroom, there’s no place to get fuel. There’s dozens of people just sitting in parking lots waiting to go get fuel at some point so they can continue on,” said business owner Bill Pope on April 16.

Interstate 40 was shut down for several hours following the crash but has since reopened.

Water service, which was also impacted, has since been restored.

Here is what an APS spokesperson had to say on Saturday following the restoration:

“Happy to share that power has been restored in Seligman following Thursday morning’s semi-truck crash along I-40, which knocked out power to nearly 800 customers. APS is grateful to stand alongside the communities we serve and thanks the resilient people of Seligman for their patience and support as crews worked around the clock over the past two days to safely restore service.”
