Arkansas Razorback softball’s Bri Ellis was brought to tears on Friday night after she received an Athletes Unlimited Softball League golden ticket.
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — It’s hard to put into words the emotions that Arkansas first baseman Bri Ellis felt on Friday night in Fayetteville.
“I’m gonna cry again,” Ellis said, as she held back tears. “I can’t even explain to anybody how hard that I have worked and worked and worked and worked.”
After the conclusion of Arkansas softball’s doubleheader against Colorado State on Friday night, Ellis received a surprise visit from the Athletes Unlimited Softball League (AUSL) Commissioner, Kim Ng.
Ng was visiting Arkansas to hand-deliver a “golden ticket” to Ellis. The ticket ensured she’d be picked in this summer’s AUSL draft. Upon receiving the ticket from Ng, her teammates crowded around her in celebration on the pitching mound at Bogle Park.
“I think it was really good that the team hyped her up so much for it, because it is such a big deal,” catcher Kennedy Miller said. “Not very many people get to play at the collegiate level, and even less, not very many people get to play professionally, so getting that honor is huge.”
Ellis has quickly put together one of the most impressive seasons in Arkansas softball history.
As she heads into the final two weeks of the regular season, she has a batting average of .490, slugging percentage of 1.216, on on-base percentage of .646 to go along with 22 home runs— all of which are top five in the country.
While her time as a Razorback is coming to an end in the next few months, fans will now get to see Ellis play in the pros for years to come.
