According to authorities, the crash happened near Castle Hot Springs and French Creek roads in Yavapai County and involved a side-by-side and a truck.
Video captured by Sky12 shows the two vehicles crashed in head on. Preliminary information suggests the UTV was traveling northbound and collided head-on with the truck traveling southbound.
The Peoria Police Department said that reduced visibility due to dust may have played a factor in the crash.
A total of seven people sustained injuries, according to the Peoria Police Department. The department said four people were transported in critical condition and multiple others sustained minor injuries.
Three of the patients in critical condition were taken to the hospital by helicopter.
The police department said some of the riders in the UTV were not seated properly.
There were seven occupants of the UTV, including two adults and multiple juveniles. The truck was occupied by two adults.
“Peoria Police would like to remind the public to exercise caution when operating off road vehicles, ensure all occupants are properly seated, and remain mindful of visibility conditions in desert environments,” the department said.
The crash remains under investigation.
