The wounded individual has died, according to the FBI.
COCONINO COUNTY, Ariz. — Shots were fired Monday morning on the Hopi Reservation as FBI agents executed a search warrant, local police said.
At about 7:30 a.m., agents were executing a warrant in the Village of Moenkopi when a subject allegedly pulled out a weapon and was subsequently shot, according to the Navajo Police Department.
Law enforcement officials administered first aid and the wounded individual was taken to a hospital in Tuba City. No other injuries were reported.
The FBI said the wounded individual is now deceased. The agent-involved shooting involved an FBI task force officer, the federal agency said.
It is not yet known how many shots were fired nor the reason for why agents executed the search warrant. The shooting is under review with the FBI’s Inspection Division.
The incident prompted a school lockdown in the surrounding area but Navajo police said there’s no active threat against the community.
