Southeastern Arkansas expecting storms early next week | Here’s what to know

Strong storms to severe storms are possible next week. Here’s how that could impact you.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — The first day of March marks the beginning of meteorological spring, and with that, sunshine and milder-than-average spring-like temperatures are expected this weekend.

Look for ample sunshine on Saturday and Sunday with highs on Saturday near 68 degrees and near 60 degrees on Sunday.

However, beyond the weekend March roars in “like a lion” as a storm system is expected to develop and bring most of Arkansas a chance of strong storms and heavy rain.

As of today, the eastern 2/3rds of Arkansas, including central Arkansas, have the greatest chance for severe weather that could include damaging winds, hail, and a tornado cannot be ruled out, especially for southeastern and eastern Arkansas.

What should we expect?

The latest update from the Storm Prediction Center places most of Arkansas in a 2 out of 5 risk or “slight” risk of severe weather. However, a 3 out of 5 risk, or an “enhanced” risk zone includes south Arkansas.

High winds, large hail and tornadoes look possible in the areas highlighted in the risk zones. This is not a guarantee that severe storms will occur in Arkansas, but the ingredients are expected to be in place for increasing potential of potent storms.

Along with the threat of severe weather, locally heavy rain is also possible, which could lead to areas of flooding.

When are the storms expected to arrive?

At this time, we need to watch for the chance of the weather becoming ugly on Tuesday afternoon or Tuesday night. The timing, location, and duration of storms will shift back and forth in the next few days.

With spring storm season getting underway, remember it’s always best to have a severe weather plan in place, and a good idea to have your safe place ready in case severe weather warnings are issued.

How can I stay safe?

With spring storm season underway, it’s important to remember to always have a severe weather plan in place, and a good idea to have your safe place ready in case severe weather warnings are issued.

Remember a “warning” means the event is happening or expected to happen.

Meanwhile, a “watch” means the weather favors the chance of an event occurring and you need to be prepared for changing weather conditions.

As always you can count on our team of expert THV11 meteorologists to provide the most current forecast information and details of the potential for severe weather.
