Brea Green made history at Little Rock Southwest High School by signing the school’s first-ever full golf scholarship.
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — A student at Little Rock Southwest High School made history this week as the first student-athlete in the school’s history to sign a full golf scholarship.
Back when the school first introduced golf as an option for students, Brea Green was eager to join the team— but she was the only one.
Austin Pfeiffer, program director at First Tee Central Arkansas, said this was the first time he had seen a team of one.
“For her to be able to kind of just put that aside and say, you know, I’m the only one here, but I believe in this and I’m gonna do this, it’s really a special thing,” described Pfeiffer.
Over the years, Brea’s dedication to the game continued to grow, and she hoped to inspire more girls to get on the golf course.
“Sometimes I rarely see black women playing golf,” she said. “So, let’s get more. Let’s get more of us out here. Let’s get more women of color. Let’s get more girls out here.”
Now, Brea will continue her academic and athletic journey with a full-ride scholarship to the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.
The rising freshman was praised for her willingness to be coached, hard-working attitude, and drive to improve every day.
